Comments - A Clarification

Background:
Some time ago, early in the life of this blog, I decided I would enable comments so that my readers could have their say on the articles I write. I like comments - it means people read what I write and I have stirred enough feeling to provoke a response. I don't mind whether comments are positive or negative, as long as they are well written and reasoned. I hate censorship - it, along with Walter Mittyism, are as low as someone can stoop as far as I'm concerned. That said, due to abuse of the system by some comment leavers, I have to moderate comments before they are published. Moderation involves either allowing or deleting the comment - I will never amend what someone else has written.

Moderation Reasons:
I am one of those bloggers who displays comments appended to the actual post instead of on a separate page or pop-up. This means, from a purely web development point of view, links left in comments on here do have some value. Links on here are 'no follow' so can't confer any PageRank on the target page, but they do have slight traffic worth. Some hardline spammers try and exploit this by leaving a few words of extremely lame comment and a link - this isn't acceptable.

I only write about things that I have experienced, researched or otherwise know a little bit about, so I find comments like "you don't know what you're on about" a little irritating because I strive to get my facts right. Of course I'll be happy to amend or clarify anything I do get wrong.

I have a combative and outspoken style of writing that does not appeal to everyone. If you leave an offensive comment in response expect it to be deleted and kindly don't visit my blog any more.

Furthermore, I am liable for any comment that I publish on this blog. If there is any doubt about the legal viability of a comment I will delete it.

Comment Rules:
Please observe the following rules when leaving comments:
  • Do not hide behind anonymity, even though it is an option, when you leave a comment. I make no apologies that I delete anonymous comments. They are of no worth.
  • Links are fine, but spam is not. If you leave 3 or 4 lines of relevant and well constructed comment then you've earned the right to leave a link.
  • No foul language or other abuse. I've got broad shoulders so you'd only be wasting your time. I'll probably delete it too.
